Legacy hasn't had much luck against Norwalk recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Tigers will head out on the road to take on the Lancers at 6:00 p.m. Legacy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
Saturday just wasn't the day for Legacy's offense. They came up short against South Hills on Saturday, falling 8-0. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Tigers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Legacy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Stephanie Salas, who went 1-for-2 with one double.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Norwalk). Everything went their way against Dominguez last Tuesday as they made off with a 22-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Lancers, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.
Mariah Favela made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (five). She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one double. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game.
In other batting news, Giselle Albidrez was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. She also put up a double, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Nayeli Sanchez, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Norwalk always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .763. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Norwalk is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-9-1 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.2 runs over those games. As for Legacy, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-6.
Monday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Legacy hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. However, it's not like Norwalk struggles in that department as they've averaged .380. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Legacy couldn't quite finish off Norwalk when the teams last played back in April of 2024 and fell 4-2. Can the Tigers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
