Football Recap: Cypress Centurions vs. Western Pioneers        
        
		
             Cypress was not able to break out of their rough patch  on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight  defeat. They fell to the Western Pioneers  28-22. The Centurions were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Pioneers apparently hadn't forgotten their  loss the last time these teams played  back in September of 2022.
 Despite the  defeat, Cypress saw an underclassman step up:  Xavier Guerrero threw for 278 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 31 yards. Those 278  passing yards set a new season-high mark for  Guerrero. A healthy portion of that aerial production (100 yards to be exact)  went to  Mekaih Felix, who also brought in a  receiving touchdown.
 Even if they lost, Cypress' defense still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Leading the way was  Tynoa Allen with  two. Another thorn in Western's side was  Tyler White, who made 15 total tackles and defended two passes.
  Makhai Hayes had a dynamite game for Western, rushing for 101 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries. Hayes really tore up the turf  during one magnificent 83-yard run.  Jj Amezcua was another key player, picking up 96 receiving yards and a touchdown.
 Cypress' loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Western,  the  victory  got them back to even at 4-4.
 Cypress will face off against Trabuco Hills at 7:00  p.m.  on Friday. Trabuco Hills is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 28.7  points per game  this season. As for Western, they will challenge Tustin at 7:00  p.m.  on Friday. Tustin knows how to get  points on the board -- the  squad has finished with 31 points or more in their past eight contests -- so hopefully Western likes a good challenge.
