Basketball Recap: St. Augustine Catholic Drops Highest Score of Season Against Empire

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Augustine Catholic). They breezed by the Empire Ravens to the tune of 66-31 on Friday. The Wolves have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six contests by 22 points or more this season.

Leading St. Augustine Catholic to victory were Lourdes Gamez and Carolina Georgelos. Gamez dropped a double-double on 18 points and 11 boards, while Georgelos dropped a double-double on 11 points and 13 boards. What's more, Georgelos also racked up five steals, the most she's had since back in November of 2024. Megan Callahan was another key player, putting up 13 points along with five assists and three steals.

St. Augustine Catholic was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Empire's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Amanda Pacheco, who posted no points in addition to 14 boards and three steals. Pacheco is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last five games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Dizzla Velarde, who went 6 of 12 on her way to 12 points.

St. Augustine Catholic has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 27.7 points. As for Empire, their record is now 3-12.

St. Augustine Catholic will challenge Morenci at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Empire, it'll be Battle of the Birds when the Empire Ravens duke it out with the Tanque Verde Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Someone's luck will take a turn for the better: Tanque Verde has lost three straight at home , while Empire has lost six on the road (dating back to last season).
