Basketball Recap: Hailey Burgess and Ava O'shields Secure Win for Wren

Wren's game last Friday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Monday. They put the hurt on the Emerald Vikings with a sharp 63-39 win. The Hurricanes have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 matchups by 21 points or more this season.

Leading Wren to victory were Ava O'shields and Hailey Burgess. O'shields dropped a double-double with 21 points and 14 rebounds, while Burgess dropped a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards. Burgess is also on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last four games she's played. Emma Kate Garrison was another key player, putting up eight points and eight rebounds.

Wren smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 25 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in February of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Emerald saw an underclassman step up: freshman Jurnee Williams almost dropped a double-double with 15 points and nine boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Ketorey Brown, who posted nine points and five rebounds.

Wren's record now sits at 16-8. As for Emerald, they have been struggling recently as they've lost 11 of their last 12 games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 4-14 record this season.

Coming up, Wren will square off against Powdersville at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Powdersville will roll in looking for their 14th straight victory, something Wren surely won't give up without a fight. Emerald does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
