Top 100 high school basketball prospect Fedonta "J.B." White killed in shooting

The Albuquerque Journal is among those reporting that Santa Fe (N.M.) high school basketball star Fedonta "J.B." White, a Top 100 Class of 2021 prospect who was committed to play at New Mexico, was tragically shot and killed early Saturday morning. He was just 18 years old.

The shooting took place at approximately 3:30 a.m. and the case remains active as no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.

The 6-foot-8 wing announced his intention to reclassify from the Class of 2021 into the 2020 class so he could play for the Lobos next season.

White was New Mexico's highest-ranked in-state commitment in program history and the third-highest ranked commit in program history overall.

According to the 247Sports composite rankings, White was regarded as the No. 75 overall prospect in the Class of 2021 and the No. 15 small forward prospect.



White earned first team MaxPreps New Mexico All-State honors after leading the Demons to a 23-6 record last season.
