Baseball Recap: Valley Find Success

The Valley Vikings beat the Hampton Talbots 5-2 on Thursday.

Julian Danko made a splash while hitting and pitching. He tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nikolas Heakins, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He also put up an RBI, which was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Benjamine Mehalick, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.

Valley's win bumped their record up to 5-1. As for Hampton, their loss was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 0-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Valley will host Derry at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The last four games Derry has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Hampton, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Beaver at 4:00 p.m.
