Basketball Recap: Wilkes Central Comes Up Short

It was a Battle of the Birds when Wilkes Central challenged Surry Central on Wednesday. The Wilkes Central Eagles were dealt a 63-10 defeat at the hands of the Surry Central Golden Eagles. The Eagles have struggled against the Golden Eagles recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.

Wilkes Central got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of Amaya Lugo and Sydney Rowe, who each put up three points. Rowe also led the team in rebounds with eight.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Surry Central to victory, but perhaps none more so than Ragan Hall, who went 5 of 11 on her way to 11 points and eight steals. Those 11 points gave Hall a new career-high. Layla Wall was another key player, putting up ten points and six steals.

Wilkes Central's loss dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Surry Central, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 5-1.

Wilkes Central wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 58-16 defeat against North Surry on the 13th. As for Surry Central, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 53-44 victory against West Wilkes on the 13th.
