Heartland I recap November 5, 2013
The biggest upset of the week belonged to Selinsgrove, who defeated 127th ranked Danville, 17-14.
Jersey Shore's Jordan Tawney rumbled for the longest rushing play in Heartland I this season in his game against Central Mountain last week. Tawney's team beat the Wildcats as he sprinted for 75 yards on the play and finished with 118 in all.
Mifflinburg's dynamic duo of Jordan Wagner and Brett Luhrman proved to be unstoppable against Lewisburg, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Wagner threw for 167 yards and 1 touchdown and Luhrman had 109 yards receiving. Patrick Crissman helped Mifflinburg's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 40 yards.
Zack Kozick provided a threat through the air and on the ground as the Ironmen fell to the Seals. He completed 14 passes for 148 yards and also ran for 43 yards. Kozick's favorite target this week was Caleb Jones, who caught 6 passes for 72 yards.
Utoa Agae-naipo was a key player and the best on defense this week as Jersey Shore bested Central Mountain. The 5-foot-10 senior grabbed 2 sacks.
On the heels of Logan English and Agae-naipo, Tom Gravish's team has had great success on offense. English leads the league in passing with 1,172 yards, while Agae-naipo has rushed for 1,134 yards this season. Danville's Evan Tanner leads the league in receiving yards with 476 on 26 catches.
Jim Keiser's team's Sam Dressler is a mere 57 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. In 131 carries Dressler has put up 943 yards this year.
An important game coming up in the league this week will be when Selinsgrove takes on Milton. At the moment, Dave Hess' team is in third, while the Black Panthers are in fourth.
The Seals scaled the state rankings by moving to 290 from 328 this week, the biggest jump in the league. Selinsgrove climbed the ranks as a result of besting the Ironmen 17-14.
