Baseball Game Preview: McGuffey Highlanders vs. Brownsville Falcons

The McGuffey Highlanders will face off against the Brownsville Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. McGuffey is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.

If McGuffey beats Brownsville with five runs on Monday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two games with that exact score. The Highlanders sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-4 win over Charleroi on Wednesday. While the Highlanders didn't have the best season last year (they finished 7-9), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

McGuffey's victory was truly a team effort as two different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Sam Stout, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2. That stolen base marked the first that Stout snagged this season.

Meanwhile, Brownsville came up short against Seton LaSalle on Wednesday and fell 6-1. The Falcons have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

McGuffey's win bumped their record up to 6-3-1. As for Brownsville, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.

The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. McGuffey has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.3 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Brownsville struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.2 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.

Everything went McGuffey's way against Brownsville in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as McGuffey made off with a 13-2 victory. Will the Highlanders repeat their success, or do the Falcons have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
