Baseball Recap: Avondale Yellowjackets vs. Lutheran Northwest Crusaders

If Avondale was feeling good fresh off their 21-11 takedown of Ferndale last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Yellowjackets took an 8-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Lutheran Northwest Crusaders on Friday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Yellowjackets of the 12-1 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Avery Prentice put in work while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and four unearned) runs off nine hits. Prentice was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games he's played.

In other batting news, Natheer Huskic made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Paul Scherbarth was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Avondale now has a losing record of 2-3. As for Lutheran Northwest, the victory keeps they at an undefeated 4-0.
