Preview: Summertown Eagles vs. Mt. Pleasant Tigers
After two games on the road, Summertown is heading back home. They will take on the Mt. Pleasant Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.
In what's become a running theme this season, Summertown gave their fans yet another huge win on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Lewis County with a sharp 92-69 win. The win was just what Summertown needed coming off of a 73-53 defeat in their prior match.
Grayson Burleson continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, almost dropping a double-double on 48 points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jackson Bennett, who scored 17 points along with five assists and two steals.
Meanwhile, Mt. Pleasant had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17.8 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Tuesday. They managed a 56-52 victory over Loretto.
Mt. Pleasant's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Ryan Benderman, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. Benderman hasn't dropped below 18 points for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Jakyri McClure, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and ten rebounds.
Summertown's victory bumped their record up to 19-8. As for Mt. Pleasant, their win was their tenth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 18-5.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Summertown have been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 32.7 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Mt. Pleasant struggles in that department as they've been averaging 29.8 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
