Baseball Game Preview: Portland Highlanders vs. Old Lyme Wildcats

Portland is 2-8 against Old Lyme since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Highlanders are taking a road trip to challenge the Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. Neither Portland nor Old Lyme posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

Portland is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Tuesday. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of Morgan.

Aaron Ciarleglio made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for Old Lyme's offense. They lost 9-0 to Stonington on Tuesday. The Wildcats' defeat continues a trend for the team, making it nine in a row.

Old Lyme's loss dropped their record down to 2-13. As for Portland, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-10.

Portland came out on top in a nail-biter against Old Lyme when the teams last played back in April, sneaking past 12-11. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Highlanders since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
