Basketball Recap: C.J. Howard and Brandon Ashley Secure Win for Southwest

Southwest won the last time they faced Jones County and things went their way on Saturday too. The Southwest Patriots snuck past the Jones County Greyhounds with a 71-66 win. Given the Patriots' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while the Greyhounds are ranked 351st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Southwest to victory were Brandon Ashley and C.J. Howard. Ashley went 6 of 7 from beyond the arc on his way to 31 points, while Howard went 6 for 11 on his way to 19 points and four steals. Ashley has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Chase Dupree was another key player, putting up eight points along with six assists and five boards.

Southwest was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matchups.

Southwest's record now sits at 12-1. As for Jones County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-9.

Southwest didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 69-47 victory against Dodge County on the 3rd. As for Jones County, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 71-60 loss against Putnam County on the 4th.
