Basketball Recap: Jaquavius Cox Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Mt. Zion

North Clayton lost to Mt. Zion back in December of 2023, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Tuesday. The North Clayton Eagles took down the Mt. Zion Bulldogs 53-38. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Eagles.

North Clayton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jaquavius Cox, who went 5 of 10 on his way to 12 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Cox has been hot, having posted eight or more boards the last six times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Cadence Burch, who posted 12 points and five steals.

North Clayton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in six consecutive games.

North Clayton has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 8-8 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.8 points per game. As for Mt. Zion, their loss was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-15.

North Clayton wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 50-49 win against Drew on the 15th. Mt. Zion has also already played their next game (against Douglass), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
