Volleyball Recap: Plainfield South's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Four

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Plainfield South had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They skirted past the Downers Grove North Trojans 2-1. The win was nothing new for the Cougars as they're now sitting on four straight.

The match was a true back-and-forth as no team won consecutive sets, but in the end it was Plainfield South who won the one that mattered. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-20, 17-25, 27-25.

Leading Plainfield South to victory were Alexander Venes and George Jimenez. Venes had 25 assists and three blocks, while Jimenez had nine digs and two assists. Venes has been hot for a while, having posted 16 or more assists the last 12 times he's played.

Downers Grove North's defeat came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Ethan Weiner, who had 13 assists and ten digs.

Plainfield South's record now sits at 24-13. As for Downers Grove North, their loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 33-5.

Plainfield South didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 2-1 victory against Benet Academy on the 31st. Downers Grove North does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
