Baseball Game Preview: Leyden Eagles vs. Hinsdale Central Red Devils

Leyden hasn't had much luck against Hinsdale Central recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Eagles will head out on the road to challenge the Red Devils at 10:00 a.m. Leyden is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.

Leyden took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They walked away with a 5-0 win over Berwyn/Cicero Morton. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Mustangs recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Leyden got a great performance from Elias Carrillo as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched. That's the most strikeouts Carrillo has posted since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, Sammy Calderon was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Nicholas Hantosh also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Meanwhile, Hinsdale Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-3 heartbreaker at the hands of Downers Grove North.

Hinsdale Central's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Leyden, they now have a winning record of 5-4.

Leyden suffered a grim 15-2 defeat to Hinsdale Central in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Eagles avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
