Baseball Recap: St. Bonaventure Sets Scoring Season-High Against Canyon

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Bonaventure). They never let the Canyon Cowboys get on the board and left with a 24-0 victory on Thursday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest win of the season.

Aaron Byrd was a major factor no matter where he played. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances.

In other batting news, Collin Barker was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with four RBI and two runs. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Joseph Martinez was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

St. Bonaventure always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .674. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

St. Bonaventure has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-7 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for Canyon, their defeat was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-15.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Bonaventure will head out to challenge Bishop Diego at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The Seraphs are facing the Cardinals at the right time seeing as the Cardinals are stuck on a six-game losing streak. As for Canyon, they will head out on the road to face off against Calabasas at 3:15 p.m. on Monday.
