Baseball Recap: Hampden Snags Fourth Victory in Last Five Games

Hampden got themselves on the board against Brewer on Saturday, but Brewer never followed suit. They came out on top against the Witches by a score of 4-0. The Broncos were shut out 1-0 the last time they took on the Witches, so the Broncos were just returning the favor.

The result came thanks to Bodie Bishop's shutout, as he gave up just four hits and racked up seven Ks. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Hampden is 4-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 2-3 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Andrew Cote was excellent, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and one run. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Josh Lorenzo was another key player, going 1-for-2 with four RBI and one double.

Hampden is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Brewer, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Hampden will take on Edward Little at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Brewer, they will square off against Hermon at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Hawks' pitching crew has only allowed 2.7 runs per game this season, so the Witches' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
