Softball Game Preview: Muenster Hornets vs. Era Hornets

Muenster is a perfect 7-0 against Era since March of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. Muenster will challenge Era at 5:00 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Muenster has 13 straight victories, Era has nine straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Muenster's pitching crew heads into the game hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by an 11-0 margin over Lindsay. The Hornets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 16 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Skyler Reed was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Muenster let Brynlee Berend and Anna Kay Hennigan run wild. Berend scored two runs while going 2-for-3, while Hennigan scored two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Ady Carney, who scored two runs while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Era lost 10-1 to Alvord on Tuesday.

Muenster's win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-7-1. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Era, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-18.

Muenster took their win against Era when the teams last played back in March by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for Muenster since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
