Basketball Recap: Southington Piles Up the Points Against Maloney

Southington put another one in the bag on Saturday to keep their perfect season alive. They breezed by the Maloney Spartans to the tune of 59-21. With the Blue Knights ahead 37-11 at the half, the match was all but over already.

Lily Cooper had a dynamite game for Southington, going 6 for 13 on her way to 17 points in addition to six assists and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Grace Russo, who posted eight points along with five boards and four steals.

Southington smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in five consecutive games dating back to last season.

Southington's win bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Maloney, they dropped their record down to 0-2 with the defeat, which was their 12th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Southington will head out to take on Pomperaug at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Maloney, they will venture away from home to challenge Wilby at 1:00 p.m. on Friday.
