Softball Preview: Sachse Mustangs vs. Wylie Pirates
Sachse hasn't had much luck against Wylie recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. Sachse will square off against Wylie at 12:30 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Sachse was handed a six-run defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Garland 11-10. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Mustangs have posted since February 24th.
Maya Mcclarity was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out ten batters over ten innings while giving up four earned (and six unearned) runs off nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 4-for-6. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Jaycie Watson was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alicia Payne, who scored two runs while going 1-for-1.
Meanwhile, Wylie had already won six in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.2 runs) and they went ahead and made it seven on Friday. Everything went their way against the Raiders as they made off with a 21-1 victory. Considering the Pirates have won seven matchups by more than five runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Sachse has been performing well recently as they've won eight of their last ten contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-8 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. Wylie's victory was their sixth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 12-6.
