Owen Valley had lost three straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 9-8 to make it four. They took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Clay City Eels. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Patriots of the 8-7 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2023.
Makynlee Bonds made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Anya Deford also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen bases of the season.
As for Clay City, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-5. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 3 runs in those games.
On Clay City's side, Lizzy Sinders spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up 15 Ks. Sinders has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Ellie Stoelting was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Karlee Smith, who went 2-for-4 with one home run.
The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Clay City beat Owen Valley by a score of 15-4 later that day.
