Baseball Game Preview: Hueytown Golden Gophers vs. Springville Tigers

The Hueytown Golden Gophers will take on the Springville Tigers at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The two teams are strolling into their matchups after big wins in their previous games.

Hueytown is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They never let Bessemer City get on the board and left with a 19-0 win on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Caleb Chapman made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Chapman was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season.

Hueytown always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .704. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Springville faced off against Hayden on Thursday. Springville put the hurt on Hayden with a sharp 6-0 win. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won six games by six runs or more so far this season.

Jake Conner was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. The team also got some help courtesy of Grant Martinez, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base and one RBI.

Springville's victory was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-2. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.8 runs over those games. As for Hueytown, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 12-8.
