Baseball Game Preview: Picayune Maroon Tide vs. Hancock Hawks

For the second straight game, Picayune will face off against Hancock. The Maroon Tide are taking a road trip to challenge the Hawks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.

Picayune blew Hancock out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Tuesday Hancock got their revenge. The Maroon Tide fell just short of the Hawks by a score of 4-2. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, the Maroon Tide couldn't push the score so high this time.

For Hancock's part, Ayden Howard spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up six Ks. The Hawks are 4-1 when Howard allows one or fewer earned runs, but 6-10 otherwise.

At the plate, Hancock's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Landon Sheilds, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.

The victory (which was Hancock's fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-11. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.5 runs across that stretch. As for Picayune, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 17-5 record this season.
