Baseball Game Preview: St. John Paul II Falcons vs. Guntersville Wildcats

The St. John Paul II Falcons will square off against the Guntersville Wildcats at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

St. John Paul II took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. They walked away with a 4-1 win over Westminster Christian Academy.

Mark Andrezjewski was a major factor no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit (and only one walk). He is becoming a predictor of St. John Paul II's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is 2-1 (and 4-10 when he doesn't). Andrezjewski was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2. That's the most runs he has posted over his last ten matchups.

Andrezjewski wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jack Smotrys, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.

Guntersville never got on the board in their matchup on Thursday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Susan Moore on Friday. They came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 10-6.

Guntersville pushed their record up to 16-11 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for St. John Paul II, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 6-11.
