Football Recap: Ragsdale Falls Despite Big Games from Sion Stevenson and Amire Barnes + How To Watch

Ragsdale extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to six on Friday, dropping them down to 0-5. The contest between the Tigers and the Dudley Panthers didn't end well, with the Tigers falling 34-18. The Tigers were not able to make up for their defeat to the Panthers from their previous meeting back in August of 2019.

Ragsdale's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Amire Barnes, who rushed for 73 yards and two touchdowns, and Sion Stevenson, who threw for 179 yards and one TD.

Even if they lost, Ragsdale's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Kingston Chandler, Jemyh Robinson, and Demetrus Kersey, who each picked up one sack apiece. Chandler was another major factor on D, picking up a sack, forcing one fumble, and making ten total tackles (2.0 for loss).

As for Dudley, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 2-3. The final result isn't all that surprising considering their considerable advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 82nd, while Ragsdale is ranked 247th).

Dudley was led to victory by Michael Boone Jr. and Brayden Jeffries. Boone Jr. rushed for 204 yards and a pair of scores while picking up 8.2 yards per carry, while Jeffries threw for 141 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 13 passes. With that strong performance, Boone Jr. is now averaging an impressive 101.8 rushing yards per game.

Coincidentally, Ragsdale and Dudley will both be playing Page the next time they take the field. The Panthers will host the Pirates at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Tigers will head out to face them at 7:00 p.m. on October 3.
