Softball Recap: Newbury Park's Win on Monday Extends Winning Streak to Three

Newbury Park had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 5-4 W against the Buena Bulldogs. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Panthers have posted since April 26, 2024.

Veronica Wasserman tossed a big game, striking out six batters over 4.2 innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits (and not a single walk).

On the hitting side, Janessa Gutierrez was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, three runs, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Lily Johnson was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Newbury Park pushed their record up to 15-10 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Buena, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-17.

Coming up, Newbury Park will host Oaks Christian at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Lions will roll in looking for their 11th straight win, something the Panthers surely won't give up without a fight. Buena does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
