Softball Recap: St. Anthony's Has No Trouble Against Sacred Heart Academy

St. Anthony never let their opponents score on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Sacred Heart Academy Sharks with a sharp 12-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Friars, who have now won 11 matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.

Melissa Gordon and Nina Vandernoth were major factors while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Gordon tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Vandernoth tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. At bat, Gordon went 1-for-2 with one triple and one RBI, while Vandernoth went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that Gordon has hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sarah Bielski, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and three RBI. Those two triples gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Juli Murillo, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

The win made it two in a row for St. Anthony's and bumps their season record up to 19-3. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.0 runs over those games. As for Sacred Heart Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season.
