Football Recap: Somerset Academy Key Falls to Boca Raton Christian in First Game of Season

Somerset Academy Key unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They lost to the Boca Raton Christian Blazers at home by a 35-17 margin on Thursday. The Lions were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Blazers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in September of 2023.

Boca Raton Christian's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Joey Weber led the charge by throwing for 436 yards and three touchdowns while completing 73.5% of his passes, and also punching in one rushing score. Weber has been hot, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last five times he's played. Josh Burnell also helped out as he racked up 237 receiving yards.

Boca Raton Christian has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Somerset Academy Key will host Somerset Prep at 5:30 p.m. on the 30th. The game will give the Lions their first taste of in-conference action this season. As for Boca Raton Christian, they will welcome SmartEn Sports Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
