Softball Recap: Atkins Camels vs. Rockingham County Cougars
Atkins had lost eight straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped their record down to 6-13 to make it nine. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 15-0 to the Rockingham County Cougars, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-0 on Friday.
As for Rockingham County, the win (which was their 17th in a row) raised their record to 18-1. Considering they have won 15 matches by more than eight runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
For Rockingham County's part, Ava Grace Pruitt made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and not a single walk). Pruitt has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in nine consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Rockingham County got a massive performance out of Kennidy Kirby, who went 2-for-3 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI. Those two triples gave Kirby a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Zoey Snead, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and one double.
Coincidentally, Atkins and Rockingham County will both be playing High Point Central the next time they take the field. The Camels will head out to face the Bison at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while the Cougars will host them at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
