Basketball Recap: Teanna Perry's Big Game Can't Quite Lead South Brunswick over New Hanover

If South Brunswick was feeling good fresh off their 61-39 takedown of North Brunswick last Monday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The South Brunswick Cougars wound up with the same score they had in their last game (61-39), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. The game was a 28-28 toss-up at halftime, but they couldn't quite close it out.

South Brunswick's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Teanna Perry, who went 6 of 9 en route to 14 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Adyson Bell, who went 5 for 9 on her way to 16 points and five boards.

New Hanover's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brianna Stanley led the charge by putting up 12 points along with six rebounds and four steals. That's the most boards Stanley has posted since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Zirhe Sellers, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine rebounds.

South Brunswick has traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-5 record this season. As for New Hanover, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 11-4.

After both having extra time off, South Brunswick and Ashley will shake off the cobwebs and take on one another at 6:00 p.m. on January 28th. As for New Hanover, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Topsail at 6:00 p.m. on January 28th. Topsail will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something New Hanover surely won't give up without a fight.
