Softball Game Preview: Artesia Pioneers vs. Anaheim Colonists

The Artesia Pioneers will face off against the Anaheim Colonists at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Artesia will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.

Having struggled with three defeats in a row, Artesia turned things around against Burbank on Saturday. They came out on top against the Bulldogs by a score of 8-3.

The team relied heavily on Kaleyse Foster, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

Meanwhile, everything went Anaheim's way against Costa Mesa on Monday as Anaheim made off with a 12-2 win. Considering the Colonists have won five matches by more than six runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Cristina Guillen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched 4.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Guillen was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-2.

In other batting news, Kamila Ramirez was a standout: she scored a run while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Chloe Tabita, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4.

Anaheim always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .633. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Costa Mesa only posted an OBP of .375.

Artesia now has a winning record of 5-4. As for Anaheim, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.

Artesia came up short against Anaheim when the teams last played back in April of 2021, falling 7-4. Can Artesia avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
