Football Recap: Churchill Falls Despite Big Games from Hunter Humphries and Bryan Ngouzo

If Churchill was feeling good fresh off their 35-0 takedown of Whitman last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Bulldogs came up short against the Quince Orchard Cougars on Friday, falling 34-13. The Bulldogs have struggled against the Cougars recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

Churchill's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Bryan Ngouzo, who picked up 96 receiving yards and a pair of TDs, and Hunter Humphries, who threw for 131 yards and two touchdowns. An impressive showing, but Ngouzo really ramped things up playing D: he picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made six total tackles.

Even if they lost, Churchill's defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: David Skopec, Ngouzo, and Nolan McHugh, who each picked up one sack apiece. Another thorn in Quince Orchard's side was Skopec, who picked up a sack, forced one fumble, and made ten total tackles (2.0 for loss).

Josiah Teasley was a one-man wrecking crew For Quince Orchard. as he threw for 122 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 83 yards and one score on only 11 carries.

Having lost for the first time this season, Churchill fell to 4-1. As for Quince Orchard, their record now sits at 5-0.

Coming up, Churchill is taking a road trip to challenge Gaithersburg at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Quince Orchard, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Sherwood at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Cougars 3.8, the Warriors 3.8) so any points scored will be well earned.
