Basketball Recap: Machai Brown Key Part of a Team Effort in Bucks Win

Hoke County picked up another tournament win on Saturday. They walked away with a 50-43 victory over the Woodland Wolverines.

Hoke County got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Machai Brown out in front who went 5 of 11 on his way to 12 points. The team also got some help courtesy of DeKeith Horne, who posted ten points and five rebounds.

Despite the loss, Woodland still got an impressive performance from JaKease Salley, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 boards. That was a full 39.5% of Woodland's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's put up more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Dwayne Blanden, who had five points.

Hoke County's victory bumped their record up to 6-7. As for Woodland, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.

Hoke County will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Southern Lee at 7:30 p.m. on January 7th. Southern Lee will roll in looking for their 12th straight victory, something Hoke County surely won't give up without a fight. As for Woodland, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 74-47 loss against Summerville on the 2nd.
