Baseball Game Preview: Westfield Bulldogs vs. Newark Reds

The Westfield Bulldogs will head out to square off against the Newark Reds at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Westfield not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since March 22nd. They put the hurt on Auburn with a sharp 13-3 win. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Bulldogs considering their one-run performance the contest before.

Westfield got a great performance from AJ Pritchard as he struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. Those nine strikeouts gave Pritchard a new career-high.

At the plate, Westfield let Carson Poch and Nikhil Antil run wild. Poch scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances, while Antil scored two runs while going 2-for-2. Those two stolen bases gave Poch a new career-high. Logan Massimo also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Meanwhile, Newark was able to grind out a solid victory over Avon on Tuesday, taking the game 7-2.

Newark now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Westfield, their record is now 5-8.
