Basketball Recap: University Prep Comes Up Short

University Prep was the 61-45 winner over Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy when they last played one another back in January, but their luck changed this time around. The Jaguars fell just short of Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy by a score of 56-54 on Tuesday. The Jaguars have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, University Prep saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Donald McFarlin posted 36 points. McFarlin's big performance that evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 19 points. Another player making a difference was Joshua Okeke, who earned ten points.

Luis Carpio was his usual excellent self, putting up 29 points along with eight rebounds and three steals for Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy. That makes it four consecutive games in which Carpio has scored at least a third of Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy's points. The team also got some help courtesy of John Botros, who put up 15 points and seven boards.

University Prep's defeat dropped their record down to 4-7. As for Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-3.

University Prep wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, an 80-51 loss against Silver Valley on the 12th. Cobalt Institute of Math & Science Academy has also already played their next contest (against Academy for Academic Excellence), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
