Tohatchi hasn't had much luck against Navajo Prep recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Cougars will head out to take on the Eagles at 3:00 p.m. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Tohatchi lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Zuni, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Tuesday's matchup. The Cougars put the hurt on the Thunderbirds with a sharp 10-1 win on Tuesday. Considering the Cougars have won eight games by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Brayden Chee was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out 15 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits (and only one walk). Those 15 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
In other batting news, Tohatchi let Raiden Vandervere and Ricky Long run wild. Vandervere scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Long scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-4. That's the most runs Long has posted since back in March of 2024. Maurice Destea also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Navajo Prep duked it out with Northwest on Friday. The Eagles never let the Falcons get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Falcons: they've now won eight in a row.
Like Tohatchi, Navajo Prep also got a great game from a two-way player: Andre Nakai. He pitched 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off six hits. Nakai was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, Keith Dodge was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Nehemiah Simpson, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.
Navajo Prep's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 5-13. Those road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.3 runs over those games. As for Tohatchi, their record is now 10-4.
Tohatchi suffered a grim 19-0 defeat to Navajo Prep when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can the Cougars avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
