It's playoff time, and Capitan had no trouble coming through when it counted. Everything went their way against the Lordsburg Mavericks on Wednesday as they made off with a 14-7 victory. Considering the Tigers have won nine matches by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Faith Roper spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven runs (all of which were unearned) on six hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Capitan let Lulu Emerson-Betti and Kennedy Rogers run wild. Emerson-Betti got on base in three of her five plate appearances with four runs and two stolen bases, while Rogers went 2-for-5 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those two hits gave Rogers a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Cambree West, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Capitan has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-9 record this season. As for Lordsburg, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 14-6.
Capitan has already played their next game, a 5-2 win against Rehoboth Christian on the 15th. Lordsburg does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
