The George West Longhorns will face off against the Karnes City Badgers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. George West is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt wants to keep things rolling.
George West is headed into the contest after thoroughly thrashing Taft: they outscored them in every quarter. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Longhorns blew the Greyhounds out of the water with a 69-32 final score. The Longhorns might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by 24 points or more this season.
Kohen Blount continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 123 yards and four touchdowns. He also put in work on the defensive side of the ball, forcing one fumble and making six total tackles (1.5 for loss).
They were just one part of a punishing run game: George West was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 447 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 287 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Karnes City entered their matchup against Cotulla on Friday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Badgers took a 26-16 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cowboys. The contest was a 7-7 toss-up at halftime, but the Badgers couldn't quite close it out.
Most of the squad's points came courtesy of special teams, who contributed ten in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Israel Soto, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Even if they lost, Karnes City's defense still kept up the pressure with five sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Logan Lopez and Hunter Mayes, who racked up four sacks between them.
Karnes City suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 6-4. As for George West, their victory bumped their record up to 10-0.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground. George West has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 417 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Karnes City struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 309 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's matchup turns into a tough fight on the ground.
George West ended up a good deal behind Karnes City when the teams last played back in October of 2021, losing 24-6. Can the Longhorns avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
