Basketball Game Preview: Wilcox-Hildreth Falcons vs. Elm Creek Buffaloes

Wilcox-Hildreth is 2-8 against Elm Creek since January of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Wilcox-Hildreth Falcons are taking a road trip to square off against the Elm Creek Buffaloes at 7:30 p.m.

Wilcox-Hildreth is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Kenesaw on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Wilcox-Hildreth had to suffer through a 67-37 loss at the hands of Kenesaw. While losing is never fun, the Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 256th, while the Blue Devils are ranked 117th).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Elm Creek). They came out on top in a nail-biter against Loomis on Friday, sneaking past 72-70. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Buffaloes have posted against the Wolves since January 5, 2018.

Wilcox-Hildreth better keep an eye on Quin Oberg. He was instrumental in Elm Creek's win, going 14 of 22 en route to 34 points along with six rebounds and five assists. The dominant performance gave Oberg a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Blake Erickson, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds.

Elm Creek's victory bumped their record up to 9-2. As for Wilcox-Hildreth, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-9.

Wilcox-Hildreth was dealt a bruising 60-28 loss at the hands of Elm Creek in their previous matchup back in January of 2024. That match was all but decided by halftime, at which point Wilcox-Hildreth was down 38-17.
