Softball Recap: West Greene Gets the Win

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against North Greene, West Greene was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 win over the Unaka Rangers. This was payback for the Buffaloes, who suffered a 12-4 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Abigail Cluesman made a splash no matter where she played. She tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off six hits. Cluesman was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple marked the first that she hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Alexis Cutshall, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. She also put up an RBI, which was her first of the season. Morgan Brown was another key player, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-1.

The victory got West Greene back to even at 4-4. As for Unaka, their loss dropped their record down to 3-2.

Coming up, West Greene will head out to face off against South Greene at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. South Greene will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something West Greene surely won't give up without a fight. As for Unaka, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 8-2 defeat against Rye Cove on the 29th.
