Baseball Game Preview: Kewanee Boilermakers vs. Princeton Tigers

Kewanee is 2-8 against Princeton since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Boilermakers will be playing at home against the Tigers at 4:30 p.m. Kewanee is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.6 runs per game this season.

Kewanee will bounce into Thursday's game after beating Princeton, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. The Boilermakers were the clear victors by a 19-3 margin over the Tigers on Monday. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Boilermakers considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

Colson Welgat made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Welgat was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. Kewanee is 2-1 when Welgat posts three or more hits, but 7-10 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ace LaFollette, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Griffin Hicks, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.

Kewanee kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Kewanee's victory bumped their record up to 9-11. As for Princeton, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-6-2.
