Volleyball Recap: Mount Miguel Takes a Loss

Mount Miguel was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Hoover Cardinals. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cardinals this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 3-2 last Tuesday.

When it comes to explaining why Mount Miguel lost, don't look at Jamall Soulivong. Despite the final result, he had 23 digs and six aces. With that strong performance, Soulivong is now averaging an impressive 10.3 digs per game. Oscar Arce Amezquita also deserves some recognition as he served his first aces of the season.

Soulivong wasn't the only good server: Mount Miguel was lethal from the service line and finished the game with 20 aces. That's the most aces they've posted in their last 11 contests.

Mount Miguel's defeat dropped their record down to 4-15. As for Hoover, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 5-5 record this season.

Mount Miguel will square off against El Capitan at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Hoover, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 2-0 loss against San Pasqual on the 21st.
