Football Game Preview: Poth Pirates vs. Dilley Wolves

Poth is a perfect 9-0 against Dilley since November of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Pirates will venture away from home to square off against the Wolves at 7:00 p.m. Poth will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

Poth is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They blew past Young Men's Leadership Academy 81-6 on Friday. Considering the Pirates have won five games by more than 35 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Poth can attribute much of their success to Payton Helford, who rushed for 182 yards and four TDs on only ten carries, and Major Luna, who threw for 230 yards and three touchdowns while completing 72.7% of his passes. With that strong performance, Helford is now averaging an impressive 102.3 rushing yards per game. Jacob Silansky was in the mix too, providing Poth with two scores.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Poth was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 258 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 155 rushing yards in six consecutive contests.

Poth didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Silansky and Koy Moczygemba. Silansky got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Dilley came up short against Cotulla on Friday and fell 26-14.

Poth's win bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Dilley, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 4-5.

Poth strolled past Dilley in their previous matchup back in November of 2024 by a score of 23-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
