Volleyball Recap: Mater Dei Starts Season with Win at Home

Mater Dei took care of business in their home opener on Tuesday. They walked away with a 3-1 victory over the San Clemente Tritons. The Monarchs haven't had any issues with the Tritons recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

The match finished with set scores of 25-12, 26-24, 23-25, 25-12.

Westley Matavao paced Mater Dei's offense, picking up 15 kills. Matavao got some help from Sam Capinpin and her 16 assists. Matavao also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Madi Dolsophon, racking up three apiece.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mater Dei is packing up and heading out for their first away game of the season: they will square off against Los Alamitos at 5:30 p.m. on the 21st. As for San Clemente, they will take on Laguna Beach at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
