Basketball Recap: Mount Vernon Majors vs. West Springfield Spartans
Mount Vernon and West Springfield squared off in some playoff action on Monday, but Mount Vernon had to settle for second. They took a blow against the West Springfield Spartans, falling 54-21. The Majors were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Spartans apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February of 2022.
KaMiyah Dabner and Rachael Sykes certainly did their best on Monday to avoid the loss. Dabner posted eight points and three steals, while Sykes had nine points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Mount Vernon and nudges their season record down to 13-11. As for West Springfield, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 12-10.
Mount Vernon does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for West Springfield, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against South County at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. West Springfield has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
