Basketball Preview: Portsmouth West Senators vs. Minford Falcons
Portsmouth West is 1-9 against the Falcons since December of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Portsmouth West Senators will head out on the road to challenge the Minford Falcons at 7:00 p.m. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.
While it was all tied up 20-20 at halftime, Portsmouth West was not quite the Trojans' equal in the second half on Saturday. The match between Portsmouth West and the Trojans wasn't particularly close, with the Senators falling 56-42. While losing is never fun, Portsmouth West can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 514th, while the Trojans are ranked 174th).
Meanwhile, Minford fought the good fight in their overtime game against the Jeeps on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Jeeps by a score of 64-62. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Portsmouth West has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for Minford, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-3.
Portsmouth West couldn't quite finish off the Falcons in their previous meeting back in January and fell 54-52. Can Portsmouth West avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
