Preview: Highland Hornets vs. Belen Eagles
Highland is 8-0 against Belen since December of 2018, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Highland Hornets will be playing in front of their home fans against the Belen Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Highland scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Friday. They were the clear victor by a 85-65 margin over Manzano. Winning may never get old, but Highland sure is getting used to it with their third in a row.
Raul Stanford and Jesus Licon were among the main playmakers for Highland as the former scored 22 points along with nine assists and seven rebounds and the latter went 6 for 11 from beyond the arc en route to 26 points and 8 assists. That's the first time this season that Licon posted eight or more assists. Another player making a difference was Owen Cheng, who scored 15 points.
Meanwhile, Belen fought the good fight in their overtime game against St. Pius X on Tuesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell to the Sartans 60-56. Belen has struggled against St. Pius X recently, as their match on Tuesday was their eighth consecutive lost matchup.
Highland is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-4 record this season. As for Belen, their loss dropped their record down to 7-11.
Everything came up roses for Highland against Belen in their previous meeting back in February of 2023 as the squad secured a 66-33 victory. Does Highland have another victory up their sleeve, or will Belen turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
