Baseball Recap: Milledgeville Comes Up Short

Milledgeville had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 7-12 to make it four. They lost 9-1 to the Amboy Clippers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Clippers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 11-3 on Tuesday.

As for Amboy, they now have a winning record of 11-10. That's two games straight that they have won by exactly eight runs.

For Amboy's part, Carson Barlow made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching seven innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. Barlow is becoming a predictor of Amboy's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 3-1 (and 8-9 when he doesn't). Barlow was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Amboy let Landon Carter and Quinn Leffelman run wild. Carter got on base in two of his four plate appearances with three runs and one RBI, while Leffelman went 2-for-4 with three RBI. Amboy is undefeated when Carter posts two or more runs, but 8-10 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Caleb Shugars, who went 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

Coming up, Milledgeville will head out on the road to take on Forreston at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The Cardinals will roll in looking for their ninth straight victory, something the Missiles surely won't give up without a fight. As for Amboy, they will welcome Newman Central Catholic at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
