Recap: Garinger Wildcats vs. Charlotte Catholic Cougars
If the Garinger Wildcats were feeling good off their 60-26 takedown of the Statesville Greyhounds on Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Garinger took a serious blow against Charlotte Catholic on Friday, falling 68-30. Garinger has struggled against Charlotte Catholic recently, as their contest on Friday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Misa Garris and Kim'mya Kelly certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Garris scored 11 points, while Kelly scored eight points. Garris scored a full 36.7% of Garinger's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Garinger struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
It was another big night for Blanca Thomas, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds for Charlotte Catholic. The matchup was Thomas' 13th in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Maggie Kernodle, who scored 12 points along with five assists.
Garinger's defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-5. As for Charlotte Catholic, they pushed their record up to 11-2 with that victory, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Garinger will take on Providence at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Charlotte Catholic, they will head out on the road to face off against Butler at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Butler is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
